Duncan Hawthorne finalist for Platts Global Energy Award
TIVERTON, ON – Dec. 15, 2003 – Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power’s President and Chief Executive Officer, was one of eight finalists for CEO of the Year at the 2003 Platts Global Energy Awards.
Hawthorne said he was honoured to have been nominated for the prestigious award, which was presented to J. Wayne Leonard of Entergy Corp. Friday evening at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Though recognized in an individual category, Hawthorne said his nomination was a reflection of Bruce Power’s combined efforts to complete the Bruce A restart project and achieve operational excellence at Bruce B at a time when Ontario faces electricity supply issues.
“The past year has been full of exciting challenges that have allowed everyone here at Bruce Power to shine and make great strides toward becoming Canada’s most dynamic and innovative team,” said Hawthorne, who was named Leader of the Year by the Ontario Energy Association earlier this year.
In selecting its finalists for CEO of the Year, the judges of the Platts Global Energy Awards said they did not focus on the size of the company. Instead, they assessed the stature of the individual, the positive effect the person’s leadership had on the company and the impact the leader’s decisions had on the industry as a whole.
