Statement from Bruce Power on SPEA picket
TIVERTON, ON – Aug. 15, 2012 – This morning, traffic was delayed around the Bruce Power site as a result of picketing activity by the Society of Professional Engineers and Associates (SPEA).
This picketing activity is not related to Bruce Power. SPEA is the union representing Candu Energy employees. Candu Energy is one of many contractors who provide services to Canadian nuclear operators. There are no SPEA members currently working on the Bruce Power site.
Bruce Power has contingency plans in place for this type of traffic delay, which can slow staff traveling to and from work.
These plans were executed and there was no impact on Bruce Power’s safe operation of Bruce A and Bruce B. The company will continue to manage the traffic delay and take appropriate action.
Bruce Power appreciates the patience demonstrated by our employees during the delays this morning.
Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power President and CEO, recently sent a letter to the President of SPEA. Read the letter to SPEA here.
