First steam produced in Unit 1 in 15 years
On Monday, Aug. 27, the refurbished Unit 1 reactor produced its first steam in 15 years.
The achievement follows the release of reactor shutdown guarantees on July 22, first criticality on July 24, and the start of heat-up and hot conditioning on Aug. 16.
As we get closer to returning Unit 1 to service, Bruce Power is also required to test 16 boiler steam relief valves. We plan to conduct the tests, which generally last about a minute, over the next couple of weeks.
Neighbours of the Bruce site may notice some steam coming from Bruce A, and a low rumbling sound resembling distant rolling thunder may be audible. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience to our neighbours.
