Amec Foster Wheeler is pleased to announce it is expanding its presence in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties by establishing an office in Kincardine on the shore of Lake Huron, Ontario.

The company provides technical, analytical, licensing, regulatory, project management and engineering design support to Bruce Power. It will establish a local design capability with an initial complement of engineers with a longer-term objective of filling their new 3,000 sq. ft. office space.

“To support Bruce Power, we are delighted to reinforce our existing Bruce site staff complement of around 100 people with this new office,” said John Mackinnon, President of Amec Foster Wheeler’s nuclear business in North America. “We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Bruce Power and the local community by providing high-value, innovative solutions that support Bruce Power’s business objectives and contribute to the local economy.”

Mitch Twolan, Bruce County Warden, welcomed Amec Foster Wheeler to the region.

“We appreciate the value their commitment to local economic development has had on surrounding communities,” Twolan said. “This is another big win for Bruce County and the surrounding area. Our partnership with Bruce Power and the opportunities this brings to the area is critical to ensuring the long-term sustainability of Bruce Power and our communities.”

The combined economic development efforts of the region and Bruce Power are starting to pay off as suppliers are expanding into the area. The initiative includes Bruce, Grey and Huron counties, and recognizes that the entire region, as well as the province, will benefit from Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program through local investments and job opportunities, said Gary Newman, Bruce Power’s Chief Engineer and Senior Vice President, Engineering, Nuclear Operations.

“We are off to a great start in achieving our long-term view of economic development in our community and the province,” Newman said. “We are pleased to see Amec Foster Wheeler establish a local presence, while creating highly skilled jobs, supporting community economic development, and enabling innovation. Helping companies expand into the region is an important part of Bruce Power’s social responsibility.”
