Bruce Power and its employees have donated more than $42,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A $30,000 donation was made by Bruce Power to the Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, Relay for Life, as part of April’s cancer awareness month and more than $12,000 raised by emergency personnel during a fundraising event held at the site on April 29. Bruce Power has been a proud sponsor of Relay for Life since 2004 and funds donated are used to publicize the event and raise awareness about the program.

“We are pleased once again to be supporting this important fundraising event,”

said James Scongack, Vice President, Corporate Affairs.

“Many lives have been touched by cancer and this event is one of the ways for people to show their support and raise money for cancer research.”

In addition to Bruce Power’s donation, 12 Emergency Services personnel shaved their heads to raise money for the fight against cancer in a competition to see who could raise the most money – the Nuclear Response Team or Emergency Response Team.

The shave-off took place on April 29 and, to assist with fundraising efforts and to help meet their goal of $10,000, Emergency Services accepted donations from employees throughout the event and online through the Canadian Cancer Society.

“The Canadian Cancer Society was thrilled to partner with Bruce Power on its first Bruce Power Emergency Services Battle Against Cancer, raising over $12,000 for cancer research, as well as help fund local programs and services,”

said Jennifer Wright, Canadian Cancer Society’s Fundraising Coordinator, Ontario Division.

“We thank each and every participant for having the courage to shave their head and support those living with cancer by raising funds through donations. Thank you all for being cancer fighters.”

Donations to the emergency services fundraiser are still being accepted. To donate, log on to www.cancer.ca/Fundraise then go to CUT. The event is listed at the bottom.
