Bruce Power has donated $10,000 to the Red Cross Ontario Disaster Response Fund to assist with relief efforts in northern Ontario, as nearly 43,000 residents in the Timmins region remain under a state of emergency.

“Although we are all encouraged by reports that conditions are improving recent events have had a significant impact on many communities in northeastern Ontario and we are pleased to assist the Red Cross in its relief efforts,” said James Scongack, Vice President of Corporate Affairs. “So when we see communities like the Mattgami First Nation being evacuated for their safety, and tens of thousands under a state of emergency, we feel the right thing to do as a company is to support the frontline aid efforts by the Red Cross.”

The Canadian Red Cross is providing assistance in areas already evacuated due to the forest fires in northeastern Ontario. The Red Cross has established three shelters. A Central Registration and Inquiry Branch has been established at the Canadian Red Cross, Ottawa branch.
