Bruce Power and its employees raised more than $80,000 during a two-hour campaign Tuesday to assist workers of the Fukushima Nuclear Plant in Japan.
A site-wide gate collection collected roughly $41,000 which was matched dollar-for-dollar by Bruce Power. That figure is expected to rise as employees have until Friday to contribute to the fundraising effort.
“Throughout this event, our thoughts have been with the people of Japan, their relatives in Canada and the workers of Fukushima for their incredible efforts to protect the people offsite,” said Duncan Hawthorne Bruce Power’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We all watched with horror as the dramatic pictures emerged from Japan and our hearts go out those who have lost loved ones.”
All money will go directly to the workers of the Fukushima Nuclear Plant in Japan and their families who have suffered devastating losses as a result of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami which inundated a portion of the Northeast Coast of the Japanese Island of Honshu.
