For the last two years, Bruce Power has partnered with the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority to enhance the Emerald Ash Borer Monitoring Program across Grey and Bruce counties. In 2016, Bruce Power has provided $5,000 for 100 emerald ash borer trap systems.
The Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis) is a destructive beetle species that is spreading across North America. At this point, there is no feasible treatment option for large scale forests and woodlots, so monitoring is being put in place to allow for the identification of infested trees and early enhancement to Forest Management Strategies.
Saugeen Conservation was formed in 1950 and has been implementing conservation programs, projects and services in the local area for over 65 years. Its jurisdiction includes the Saugeen, Pine and Penetangore River Watersheds, an area of approximately 4,675 sq. km (1,805 sq miles).
