TIVERTON, ON – June 24, 2009 – Bruce Power’s Nuclear Response Team captured first prize at the 2009 US National SWAT Championship in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday.
“This team is a credit to our company and have demonstrated great pride, dedication and integrity en route to this championship,” said Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
The US National SWAT Championships is a three-day team competition consisting of eight tactical events that test fitness, weapons skills and team organization. Scoring is based on time and target hits and the events are conducted in full tactical gear in head-to-head stages.
It was the second year in a row the eight-member Bruce Power team took top prize at the event which attracted 18 tactical teams from the U.S. and abroad, including Germany’s elite GSG9 counter-terrorist team. Bruce Power was the only Canadian team competing at the event.
“The fact that four of the eight members were rookies at this competition speaks volumes for the program we’ve developed,” said John Latouf, team coach. “Competitions like this continue to help us benchmark ourselves against the best tactical teams in the world.”
