To celebrate the season, Bruce Power’s Aboriginal Employee Network (AbNet) decided to do what many workgroups across site do each year and “adopt” two local families for Christmas.

The initiative began in late-October with cash donations collected and members encouraged to go out and purchase specific gifts if they felt so inclined. In all, over 40 gifts were purchased in advance and almost $600 collected, which went toward more gifts and grocery store gift cards for the two families.

“The goal was to help lighten the load we all know can become heavier at this time of year and to extend wishes for peace and joy during the holiday season,” said Christine John, AbNet Chair.

The group held its annual Christmas luncheon at the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre where those in attendance enjoyed a traditional turkey dinner and then wrapped the gifts before loading them into vehicles for delivery to the families on the Saugeen and Nawash First Nations.
