Investing in our Community

Our business is power. We use the strength of our people and innovative technology to provide electricity to a quarter of the homes, businesses, schools and hospitals in Ontario.

But we can’t do it alone. We rely on the support and commitment of our surrounding communities and everyone that lives here. Given that, Bruce Power has a social responsibility to engage, assist and champion the needs and causes close to home.

We give back and lift up. Help and cheer on. From being an active partner in our community, we have learned and experienced the true power of giving.

Since 2011, we have donated nearly $2.5 million to support programs that focus on (click links for details):

Health and wellness

Community

Youth Development

Events

Aboriginal programs

Military, veterans and first responders

In each of these areas of focus, there are organizations and individuals doing amazing things in our community. We chose to support them by using a clear selection process. Groups submit a thorough application outlining their needs through our online system and our Sponsorship Committee chooses to provide grants based on a set of approved criteria.

The committee is made up of Bruce Power senior management, departmental experts, and is lead by CEO Duncan Hawthorne.

We have built a relationship over the years with some of the groups we fund, while we have just learned about others. Some we may only need to fund once. The intention is always the same – to support the great work that is being done to improve lives, protect the environment, celebrate culture, encourage education and build healthy communities in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.

It’s pretty powerful stuff.

Our employees also give generously through cash donations and countless hours of volunteering in their communities.
