The Bruce Power/Saugeen Shores/Municipality of Kincardine joint physician recruitment committee has struck an agreement to bring a new full-time general surgeon to the Kincardine hospital.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Michael Gora providing an integral service such as general surgery to Kincardine’s hospital,” said James Scongack, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Bruce Power, who also sits as chair of the joint physician recruitment committee. “Young general surgeons are a rarity in rural communities like ours, so we are excited about Dr. Gora’s decision to relocate to Kincardine.”

The money used to bring Dr. Gora to Kincardine, starting in early-August, is covered by a recent Bruce Power physician recruitment donation to the municipality. The physician recruitment committee is comprised of a recruiter, Bruce Power representatives, and the chief administrative officers from Kincardine and Saugeen Shores.

Dr. Gora, who completed his residency in general surgery at Queen’s University after receiving his medical school training at McMaster, has agreed to relocate to the region and spend at least the next five years practicing at the Kincardine hospital.

Dr. Gora hails from the small town of New Hamburg, ON, but grew up in Toronto. He is an avid outdoorsman with an interest in windsurfing, snowkiting, cross-country skiing, beach volleyball, mountain biking, as well as indoor sports like swimming and hockey.

“I have always been interested in practicing in a smaller community, and, being the outdoors-type, Kincardine certainly offers everything I’m looking for both professionally and recreationally,” Dr. Gora said. “I can’t wait to move to the area and begin meeting the people and serving patients in Kincardine.”
