Employees and contractors on the Bruce Power site recently contributed more than 130 pairs of used skates in support of a United Way of Bruce Grey initiative to provide skates for families in need.

The organization intends to distribute the skates at free community skating events in Kincardine, Saugeen First Nation and Saugeen Shores during the year-end holidays.

Collection bins were left inside building entrances on the Bruce Power site for a two-week period for employees and contractors to drop off skates. Some hockey helmets and skate guards were also contributed.

In true community fashion, Melinda Myette of Saugeen Shores is coordinating the distribution, while Gord Lamont of Gord’s Pro Shop in Port Elgin is sharpening all the skates for free.
