BWXT, formerly Babcock & Wilcox, has been a supplier to the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station since its construction. With seven locations across Ontario, BWXT designs, supplies and services critical nuclear plant systems, such as steam generators, heat exchangers, feeders, fuel channels, fuel handling systems, valves and specialized tooling systems.
Some notable contributions by BWXT to the Bruce site include the design and supply of all original and replacement steam generators, supply of Bruce B feeders, West Shift fuel channel maintenance services and supply of the Bruce Reactor Inspection and Maintenance Systems (BRIMS), to name a few.

Having been branded as Babcock & Wilcox since the 1920’s, many in the industry may not recognize the new BWXT brand established in 2015 after The Babcock & Wilcox Company spun-off of the fossil power division, establishing BWXT as a solely nuclear energy focused company (NYSE:BWXT).
In December of 2016, BWXT acquired GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada, doubling its size in Canada with nearly 1000 employees today. Focused on increasing value for its customers, the acquisition expanded BWXT’s product and service portfolio and broadened their footprint with three additional locations across Ontario.
The company is poised to support both regular operations and maintenance as well as life extension projects with everything from critical refurbishment services to major component replacement supply.
On January 26, 2018, BWXT demonstrated its commitment to supporting Bruce Power’s life extension program by establishing a presence in Bruce County. Located in the newly developed Southgate Plaza in Port Elgin, BWXT officially opened its regional office doors and celebrated the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by local officials, community leaders and Bruce Power executives.
“Moving into the community offers many advantages for BWXT and Bruce Power, including better responsiveness and reduced travel” said President of BWXT Canada, John MacQuarrie. “We are committed to Bruce Power’s success and supporting Bruce County.” The company celebrated the occasion with a donation to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation of $5,000.
