Bruce A update

Unit 4 at the Bruce A generating station was taken offline early Sunday morning due to an issue with one of the unit’s heat transport pumps.

There was a release of heat transport water in a controlled area immediately adjacent to the pump inside the Bruce A station. The controlled area is a physical barrier designed to collect leakage if it occurs.

The heavy water used in the heat transport system was safely recovered. While follow-up activities will continue, there are no safety impacts on employees, the public or the environment. Bruce Power will provide updates on the follow-up activities as they become available.

Unit 4 was scheduled for a planned outage later this week and will remain offline as crews investigate the cause of the issue and make the necessary repairs.

Bruce A Units 1, 2 and 3 and the four Bruce B units continue to provide electricity to the Ontario grid.
