Bruce Power executive serves as co-chair of council that brings powerful collaboration tool to public health units, private sector organizations
To further support Ontario’s historic vaccination effort, the Ontario Vaccination Support Council (OVSC) announced today it has launched an online portal at www.vaccinesupportcouncil.com, which will be used as a valuable resource to connect Ontario’s public health units with private sector organizations, offering support in their region. Bruce Power is proud to have supported the council’s efforts.
Founded by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), the Council is co-chaired by James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Operational Services, and Garrick Tiplady, the Managing Director of Facebook Canada. The Council leverages over 250 businesses, universities, colleges, associations, and labour unions from across the province to provide support for Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts with the ultimate goal of ending the pandemic.
“This portal is about recognizing the role of public health in Ontario, and bringing the private sector resources we have to the table in support of vaccination efforts,” Scongack said. “There are so many businesses that want to help in the province’s vaccination effort and this hub will serve as a resource to bring all of those energy and resources together in one spot.”
The portal will allow for two-way communication between the private sector and public local health units so that organizations can volunteer time or resources to support the province’s vaccination efforts. The portal will also serve as a resource to the general public by providing links to key public health information and resources, said Richard Horrobin, Bruce Power’s Vice President & Managing Director, Supply Chain.
“The Bruce Power Life-Extension Program is ranked the second largest infrastructure project in Canada by ReNew Canada, so we know big projects,” Horrobin said. “Like so many other private sector organizations, we offered our expertise and support to public health and all levels of government to help put an end to the pandemic. This portal will serve as a powerful tool for private organizations and public health to work together.”
Bruce Power provided equipment and logistical support to the Grey Bruce Health Unit for three mass immunization hubs in the region, including the donation of ultra-low temperature freezers to store the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine. Dr. Ian Arra, Medical Officer of Health, Grey Bruce Health Unit recently spoke about the success of this partnership to the OVSC as an example of strong collaboration between the private sector and public health. The portal was designed and built by Nuclear Promise X (NPX), a Canadian start-up that integrates the latest emerging technology into nuclear plant operations, projects, and processes.
