Bruce Power to support new Brockton Regional Fire Training Centre for volunteer firefighters

The Municipality of Brockton and Bruce Power are teaming up to offer training to local volunteer firefighters through the new Brockton Regional Fire Training Centre.

“Earlier this year, the Ontario Fire College restructured its format to move to a regional approach and the Municipality of Brockton is launching the Fire Training Centre with the goal of providing Brockton and its surrounding regional fire departments with affordable, attainable and accessible training in a safe, professional environment,” said Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody.

Some of the courses the Fire Training Centre will offer involve a live fire aspect which Bruce Power will support through the use of Bruce Power Fire Training Facility. The facility is already available to municipal fire departments in the Clean Energy Frontier region of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties free of charge for training.

“We commend the Municipality of Brockton for taking this initiative to ensure volunteer firefighters get the training they need to keep themselves safe and also protect people throughout our region,” said Jennifer Edey, Vice President of Site Services at Bruce Power. “We all owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our volunteer firefighters for the sacrifices they make to keep us safe.”

Bruce Power’s fire training facility includes propane-fueled props, producing fire and smoke, to simulate a variety of situations and thermal cameras, located throughout the building, capture video footage and stream it back to a central control room. The main building, which can be used year round, also features a 50-foot tower for high-angle rescue training and there are also a number of outdoor fire simulators including a car, forklift, and transformer.
