The 50-bed pop-up facility Bruce Power donated to the County of Essex last summer has proven crucial to the smooth and effective operations of the mass vaccination sites in Windsor and Essex County.
The equipment, originally meant to assist battling an outbreak affecting local agricultural workers, has been repurposed as privacy rooms, cultural rooms and medical recovery rooms at vaccination centres located in Leamington, Amherstberg and Windsor.
“The generous donation from Bruce Power has been pivotal in this region’s fight against COVID-19, allowing us to safely and expeditiously inoculate tens of thousands of Windsor and Essex County residents,” said Essex-Windsor EMS Chief Bruce Krauter. “The pop-up facility is so versatile and functional that it seamlessly complements the operations at our mass vaccination sites. It is a shining example of the good we can accomplish by working together.”
Rick McMurray is a Manager in Site Services at Bruce Power and is proud of the company’s commitment to working with public health and all levels of government to assist in COVID-19 immunization efforts in Grey, Bruce and Huron counties, and across the province.
“The level of collaboration in Ontario’s historic vaccination effort has been truly outstanding,” said McMurray. “Bruce Power, along with many dedicated organizations, has provided resources and logistical expertise to support public health in delivering vaccines to all Ontarians.”
In early May, Bruce Power brought together a coalition of businesses, unions and organizations who provided support to support immunization efforts in communities across Ontario. These partners include:
