Bruce A’s Unit 4 has set a new record for consistent production since it was refurbished by Bruce Power in late-2003.

The unit, which joined Unit 3 as part of the world’s first reactor reclamation project, has been producing electricity for Ontario’s grid for 267 consecutive days, which is the best run of performance by the unit since Bruce Power took over the reactors and restarted them.

This year, Unit 4 has run at a 99.5 per cent capacity factor. In 2010, its capacity factor was over 93 per cent.

What this lengthy run also shows is the potential which exists when reactors are operated in a safe, reliable manner with ongoing investment. In fact, since 2001, in addition to the current project underway on Units 1 and 2, Bruce Power has invested about $1.5 billion in the site.
