Bruce Power was a hive of activity on Nov. 14, when nearly 170 local Grade 9 students took part in the site’s annual Take Our Kids to Work Day.

The students enjoyed an interactive career fair, which included a virtual reality tour of the upcoming Major Component Replacement Project, as well as tours of the site, the state-of-the-art Fire Training Facility, and the water demineralization plant.

“It was wonderful to see the students’ smiles as they took part in the unique experiences we provided during their visit,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO. “Providing opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to local students early in their educational journey is important to Bruce Power. Through Ontario’s Nuclear Innovation Institute, we will introduce students to advanced technologies in STEM, some of which will be developed at the Institute and deployed on the Bruce site in the coming decades.”

One of the many goals of the Institute is to provide rural students with unprecedented access to future technologies in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, cyber-security, medical and industrial isotopes, Indigenous economic development, nuclear operational excellence, and health and environmental excellence in the Lake Huron and Georgian Bay areas, Rencheck said.

“The Nuclear Innovation Institute will be a community hub that will allow local students of all ages to think big, conduct research, and pursue the careers of the future without having to leave their friends and family to pursue their dreams and aspirations.”
