Members of Bruce Power’s Environment & Sustainability team recently spent a day at Spring Creek, near Hepworth, to see its corporate sponsorship dollars at work.
Bruce Power has been a proud sponsor of the Spring Creek Restoration Project since 2013, and this year the company donated $29,500 to ensure rehabilitation efforts continue.
Spring creek is a five kilometre cold water tributary of the Sauble River located within the Municipality of South Bruce Peninsula. The creek provides critical spawning and rearing habitat for trout and salmon. More specifically it is an important habitat for the only known self-sustaining Coho Salmon population on the eastern shores of Lake Huron.
In 2015, Bruce Power established its Environment & Sustainability fund that sees around $400,000 of financial support go to local projects which focus on environmental projects such as habitat restoration and rehabilitation. The work done in Spring Creek is an excellent example of the strength partnerships can have in tackling environmental projects.
