Stewards of Spring Creek, near Hepworth, have received a $22,600 boost from Bruce Power’s Environment Fund to continue their research and improvements to the area.

Dr. James Hamilton and the Hepworth Anglers Club have been conducting tests and making improvements to the creek over the past few years to help rainbow trout and salmon during spawning. The creek, which is formed by a series of natural springs, meets with the Sauble River and eventually empties into Lake Huron, creating an important habitat for fish reproduction.

Over the years, the Hepworth Anglers Club has made improvements to water oxygenation, rock beds and silt removal systems, while Dr. Hamilton and his students continue to gather data on the ground-fed creek, which is a rarity in southern Ontario. Bruce Power’s donation will assist with monitoring devices for Dr. Hamilton, so his research team can continue to help the Anglers Club improve the health of the creek and the creatures that rely on it.
