Bruce Power has donated a truck to Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce to assist with future house builds.
The 2012 Dodge Ram will be used by Habitat to pull its safety equipment trailer and haul material to its build sites across Grey and Bruce counties. The non-profit organization recently completed Canada’s first Habitat build on a First Nation, when it handed the keys of a new home to Donna Akiwenzie, a resident of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation at Neyaashiinigmiing.
Bruce Power was a major sponsor of that build project, and has supported Habitat with monetary and in-kind donations for years, said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Environment.
“Habitat for Humanity is an organization that does so much good in our communities that we are always seeking ways to further our relationship,” Scongack said. “Whether it is the donation of a truck, collecting e-waste during Earth Week, or encouraging employees to spend a day on house build, we are proud to support Habitat in its efforts to provide affordable housing to the people and Grey/Bruce.”
Greg Fryer, the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce, said the truck donation is part of Bruce Power’s involvement in the group’s next project at Neyaashiinigmiing. Habitat is planning a 10-unit housing development for the people of the community.
“Our upcoming affordable housing development at Neyaashiinigmiing is our most ambitious project to date,” Fryer said. “Having a reliable truck is vital to our operations, so Bruce Power’s donation fills a big need that will help us serve Grey/Bruce families.”
