Bruce Power is investigating the cause of the August 2, 2017, release of heat transport water in a diked area immediately adjacent to the pump inside the Bruce A station. The diked area is designed to collect leakage if it occurs.
Bruce Power investigates events such as this in order to ensure they do not reoccur and shares this operating experience with other nuclear plants around the world.
The heat transport water, which contains radionuclides, was recovered into 30 drums the same day as the release and there were no detectable releases and no impact on employees, the public or the environment.
Unit 3 remains shut down as part of a planned maintenance outage while the remaining Bruce Power units continue to operate at high power.
