The United Way of Bruce Grey will be launching its annual fundraising campaign on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Hanover Raceway, 265 5th St.

The free event will feature a tug of war competition, with local teams competing in the challenge. Teams pulling together in the competition include the Bruce Power SWAT Team, the Walkerton and Elmwood Fire Departments, St. John Ambulance, Grey County EMS, the Municipality of Brockton and the Town of Hanover.

“Bruce Power is dedicated to being an active partner in our community, building on the over $1 million the company, our employees and suppliers have donated over the last 10 years,” said Duncan Hawthorne, President and CEO and 2012 Campaign Chair. “We are proud to be a sponsor of this event for the United Way of Bruce Grey.”

Boxes will be set up during the day for anyone who wishes to donate. All proceeds will support the United Way and its member agencies.

“We in the labour movement have a tradition of supporting communities through our partnership with the United Way,” said Hazel Pratt-Paige, President Grey Bruce Labour Council and Campaign Co-Chair. “More and more of us are turning to United Way agencies as we struggle through difficult times, so our support of the United Way campaign is an investment in our communities in Bruce and Grey.”

The United Way thanks its sponsors at the Hanover Raceway, Bruce Power, the Owen Sound Sun Times, The Post – Hanover, Shoreline Beacon, Kincardine Times, Saugeen Times, Eastlink TV, 101.7 The One, Bayshore Broadcasting, and 92.3 The Dock.

Community members are invited to attend the campaign launch and tug of war competition at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11. Let your change make change in your local community.
