Bruce Power, Town of Saugeen Shores and Saugeen Shores Fire Department hosting FireFit competition Aug. 26-27

Come out to Port Elgin’s beach Aug. 26-27 to watch what has been called ‘the toughest two minutes in sports.’

Bruce Power, along with the Town of Saugeen Shores and the Saugeen Shores Fire Department, are proud to host the FireFit Championships Lake Huron regional competition. The two-day event will feature firefighters from all over our region, including Bruce Power’s Emergency Protective Services Fire Department, competing against each other on the gruelling course.

“We’re pleased that the FireFit event is returning following a hiatus during the pandemic and we’re excited to host along with the Town of Saugeen Shores and the Saugeen Shores Fire Department,” said Jeff Steven, Bruce Power’s Division Manager of Emergency and Protective Services. “We have seen great community support for this volunteer-run event and we encourage everyone to come out and cheer on the skilled competitors.”

The event will be held on the beach where the train station used to be. Use of the land has been generously donated by Cedar Crescent Village (CCV).

FireFit is made up of six tasks – the stair climb, hose hoist, forcible entry, run, hose advance, and victim rescue. Firefighters will compete in the individual races Saturday, with the team event – made up of three to five firefighters – taking place Sunday.

Bruce Power and the Saugeen Shores Fire Department will both have teams in Sunday’s competition.

Admission to the event is free and the public is encouraged to come out and support the competitors.
