Bruce Power donates $500,000 toward MRI machine at Kincardine hospital during Rock With Your Docs

During a break in the music at Rock With Your Docs June 20, Bruce Power’s James Scongack stepped to the mic and brought the crowd to its feet with the announcement of a $500,000 donation from the company and its supplier partners toward an MRI machine for Kincardine’s hospital.

It was a shot in the arm for the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, which has a goal of raising $18 million for the Kincardine Hospital Redevelopment Capital Campaign.

“It’s great to see everyone enjoying Rock With Your Docs and supporting such a wonderful cause at the same time,” said Scongack, Bruce Power’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. “We all know the importance that local health care plays in our communities and Bruce Power is proud to be able to continue to support fundraising efforts on behalf of our employees and our partners.”

Bruce Power previously committed an $1.5 million to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation in support of its redevelopment campaign, while an additional $500,000 was committed from its supplier partners. Bruce Power also donated $450,000 to Municipalities of Kincardine and Saugeen Shores to support Emergency Room availability ($150,000 per year from 2024-26) with $25k/year going directly to each hospital for ER support programs.

The Kincardine Hospital Redevelopment Capital Campaign – Building Health Care for Generations – began with a goal of $18 million and has raised more than $10 million to date.

This funds the local share of South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s $79-million Phase 1 Redevelopment Project to revitalize and enlarge critical areas of the Kincardine hospital, as well as the hospital’s ongoing medical equipment needs. The Phase 1 Redevelopment Project will modernize and expand the emergency department, improve diagnostic imaging, strengthen outpatient laboratory services and create a new decontamination room better able to serve the local nuclear industry’s emergency preparedness program. SBGHC anticipates breaking ground on the redevelopment of the Kincardine hospital in 2026, with construction expected to take three years to complete. The second phase of the redevelopment is projected to begin upon completion of Phase 1.

This important investment in the local hospital is desperately needed to meet the demands of the growing community. The redeveloped hospital will allow highly qualified health-care professionals to better serve patient needs and provide efficient and timely care.

“As the largest employer in our area, we are thankful for the continued support of Bruce Power and its employees and partners as the community rallies together in support of health care and the redevelopment of Kincardine’s hospital,” said Becky Fair, President of the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation.
