Bruce Power and Saugeen Ojibway Nation donate $25,000 to Hockey Fights Cancer through Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin isotopes partnership

Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) through the Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin Isotopes Partnership donated $25,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society at the Owen Sound Attack’s Hockey Fights Cancer game on Nov. 8.

“Together through the Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin partnership, Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation have teamed up on medical isotopes used in the fight against cancer,” said Chad MacLean, Bruce Power’s Senior Director, Business Development & Transformation. “Supporting Hockey Fights Cancer is a meaningful way to extend that impact by standing with patients, families, and communities across the region.”

The Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin partnership supports the global fight against cancer while creating new, meaningful economic opportunities within SON Territory, said Michael Chegahno, Director of Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin.

“This partnership is more than an agreement, it is a reflection of our values as people – to heal, to protect, and to build a healthier future for all our relations,” Chegahno said. “Seeing our communities come together for Hockey Fights Cancer powerfully shows this shared commitment.”

“This donation through the Owen Sound Attack’s Hockey Fights Cancer game will make a meaningful impact in our community,” said Allison Taylor-Misener, Events Specialist for the Canadian Cancer Society. “This support helps fund our local transportation program, ensuring cancer patients can access life-saving treatment without the added burden of travel. We’re incredibly grateful for the continued commitment of Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation to helping ease the cancer journey for families across the region.”

Founded by the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players’ Association, Hockey Fights Cancer brings together hockey fans, cancer survivors, and community champions to raise funds and awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society. This year, 100 per cent of funds raised were dedicated to the Wheels of Hope Grey Bruce & Collingwood Travel Treatment Fund, which provides transportation support for cancer patients, helping them get to and from treatment appointments when travel is a barrier to care.
