Bruce Power donates $500,000 to BUILDKD+ Campaign for new Kincardine District Senior School

Bruce Power is donating $500,000 through its Community Investment Fund to support the BUILDKD+ Campaign, helping to enhance learning and community spaces at the new Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS).

The BUILDKD+ Campaign is raising funds for features that go beyond the provincially funded school build, with a focus on creating inspiring, future-ready spaces that support arts, technology, athletics and community use.

The campaign has set a fundraising goal of $4.5 million to support enhancements such as a track and field facility, technological education spaces, arts and performance areas, and flexible student learning environments.

Bruce Power’s contribution represents a significant investment in local education and the long-term vitality of the Kincardine community.

“Bruce Power is proud to support the BUILDKD+ Campaign and invest in a project that will benefit students, families and the broader community for generations to come,” said James Scongack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. “These enhanced spaces will help foster hands-on learning, innovation and well-being, supporting the future workforce while strengthening the community in which our employees live, work and raise their families.”

The new KDSS facility will serve students from Grades 7 to 12 and is designed to be a hub for both education and community activity, with spaces that can support sports, performances, and community gatherings.

“This generous donation from Bruce Power will help bring a shared vision to life,” said Don Burns, Principal of KDSS and Chair of the BUILDKD+ Campaign. “The BUILDKD+ Campaign is about creating opportunities for students and the entire community, with spaces that inspire creativity, support skilled learning and promote well-being for the next 50 years and beyond.”

The campaign reflects a strong community effort, with early fundraising initiatives already seeing broad participation and support from residents and partners committed to shaping the future of education in Kincardine.

Bruce Power’s contribution underscores its commitment to supporting education, workforce development and community across the region. The company believes in being an active partner within its community and the Community Investment Fund supports initiatives that focus on health and wellness, youth development, and engaging the community and Bruce Power employees in the important mission of citizenship.

According to the Bluewater District School board, a timeline for the completion of the new school will be announced at a later date.
