Bruce Power signs 12-year Master Supply Agreement with Shawflex, strengthening Canadian nuclear supply chain

Bruce Power has signed a 12-year Master Supply Agreement with Shawflex, strengthening a long-standing Canadian partnership that supports clean energy production, fuels economic growth, and reinforces the strength of Ontario’s nuclear supply chain.

The agreement, highlighted today at Shawflex’s Vaughan facility as part of the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCNI) Supplier Engagement Event, will see Shawflex, a division of MATTR Corp., provide highly engineered electrical wire, cable, components and assemblies to support Bruce Power’s ongoing operations and future projects.

Building on a strong history of collaboration, the agreement reflects Bruce Power’s commitment to sourcing from Canadian suppliers while supporting Shawflex’s continued investment in its Ontario manufacturing capabilities. This work will help sustain and grow highly skilled jobs while enhancing supply chain readiness for nuclear refurbishment, life-extension activities and potential new-build opportunities.

Shawflex will support critical work across Bruce Power’s site, including maintenance programs, Major Component Replacement (MCR) projects, and life-extension initiatives that help provide reliable, carbon-free electricity for Ontario. The agreement also positions both organizations to support future nuclear development, including broader energy infrastructure investments across Canada.

“Bruce Power is proud to work with Canadian companies such as Shawflex to deliver the reliable, clean electricity Ontario families and businesses depend on every day,” said David Furr, Vice-President, Supply Chain, Bruce Power. “This long-term agreement strengthens our domestic supply chain, supports good-paying jobs, and ensures we have the right partners in place to deliver complex projects safely and efficiently for years to come.”

“This agreement reflects Shawflex’s role as a trusted Canadian supplier to the nuclear industry and our continued investment in advanced manufacturing in Ontario,” said Jarrod Shugg, Vice-President and General Manager, Shawflex. “We are proud to support Bruce Power’s operations and future projects with high-quality, engineered cable solutions that meet the demands of one of the world’s leading nuclear facilities.”

Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program is one of Canada’s largest clean-energy infrastructure projects, helping to secure Ontario’s electricity supply while driving billions in economic activity and supporting tens of thousands of jobs across the province and country. Partnerships like this one are critical to ensuring supply chain readiness as nuclear projects continue to expand in Ontario and across Canada.

The agreement announcement coincides with OCNI’s Supplier Engagement Event, which brings together utilities, suppliers, government representatives and industry stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and provide insight into upcoming project opportunities across Canada’s nuclear sector.

“Supplier engagement remains a critical component of ensuring Canada’s nuclear supply chain is aligned, informed, and ready to deliver,” said Ivette Vera-Perez, OCNI President and Chief Executive Officer. “By bringing together suppliers, utilities, and partners in a focused setting, we are helping to create the conditions for stronger collaboration and more effective project execution.”

“I applaud Bruce Power and Shawflex for their commitment to growing their operations in Ontario and enhancing our domestic supply chain. This supply agreement will help create and sustain hundreds of good-paying jobs, including many here in Thornhill, while strengthening our economy and further solidifying Ontario as a global leader in nuclear.”

Melissa Lantsman, Member of Parliament for Thornhill, Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition

This is what Canadian energy leadership looks like. Ontario’s nuclear workers are the best in the world, and every contract signed with a supplier like this one means paycheques for skilled workers and families instead of promises on paper. Nuclear already provides about 60 per cent of Ontario’s electricity and supports tens of thousands of well-paying jobs across the country. That is real, affordable, reliable power, made right here at home. We should not be importing energy solutions when we have uranium from Saskatchewan, reactors designed in Canada, and the workers to build it all right here at home. Projects like Bruce Power’s Major Component Replacement and the Darlington Refurbishment are proof that when government gets out of the way and lets industry build, Canada wins. Congratulations on a momentous partnership.
