Bruce Power and its supplier partners have donated $100,000 to Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) for its work in assisting children and families impacted by cancer.
“Bruce Power and our supplier partners believe strongly in the high-quality wrap-around care and supports POGO has developed over the years to serve its young patients and families,” said Pat Dalzell, Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, Market Development and Operational Services, Bruce Power. “By supporting POGO, families can be assured they will receive the best emotional, practical and financial support throughout their cancer care.”
“We are thrilled at the consistent and unyielding support Bruce Power and its supplier partners provide to Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario year after year,” said Lauren Ettin, POGO’s Chief Executive Officer. “This ongoing generosity helps us strengthen and confidently deliver vital programs to support children and youth with cancer, survivors and their families with the best possible care.”
Bruce Power reactors produce cancer-fighting medical isotopes. Cobalt-60 helps to sterilize 40 per cent of the world’s medical devices as well as treat brain tumours and breast cancer. Bruce Power expanded its isotope production capability in 2022 and 2024, with the installation of two innovative Isotope Production Systems (IPS), which produce lutetium-177. This isotope is used to treat neuroendocrine tumours and prostate cancer. A new system will be installed in Unit 6 in 2027.
This increase in supply redundancy and capacity will ensure that Bruce Power’s isotope program can nimbly support innovations in the isotope industry as research continues to identify new opportunities and react to current demands.
