Bruce Power and its supplier partners to match up to $100,000 in donations to wildfire relief efforts through True North Aid and Canadian Red Cross

“We’ve all seen the images on the news of the loss many communities are suffering and the effects it’s having on the people who live in Northern Ontario and across Canada,” said James Scongack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President, Bruce Power. “We’re joining with our supplier partners and employees to raise money to help and we invite you to donate to this worthy cause if you’re able to do so.”

Contributions will help support immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts and may be used to support evacuees, assist affected communities, and provide critical support as communities rebuild.

True North Aid said that its approach is guided by Indigenous self-determination, with affected families and community leaders identifying priorities while the organization coordinates the support that is needed.

“We feel strongly that listening to what the community members need and want is first and foremost,” the organization said.

The campaign also serves as a reminder of the connection between environmental sustainability, air quality and public health. Wildfires have become an increasing source of air pollution across Canada, contributing to air quality concerns that can affect communities hundreds or even thousands of kilometres from the source of a fire.
