Bruce Power will host community information sessions in the coming weeks as it continues to advance early engagement with local Indigenous communities and the public on a potential Bruce C expansion to add new nuclear generation at Bruce Power.

We are committed to keeping our communities up to date and engaged throughout the Impact Assessment process and will provide multiple opportunities to be involved.”
While no decision has been made to advance with a project, Bruce Power has initiated this process to begin early dialogue and engagement to ensure all voices are heard.
Last week, Bruce Power notified the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) of its intent to commence the Impact Assessment (IA) process for the Bruce C Project. Early community, Indigenous and public engagement is an important component of the IA process and central to Bruce Power’s core value of serving as an active contributor in our community.
“We will achieve this by engaging people and conducting pre-development activities now so we can increase the certainty around supply options, learning from past challenges with large infrastructure projects for a better future,” Scongack said.
Bruce Power will hold community information sessions in local Indigenous communities over the coming weeks to provide an opportunity for community members to learn about Bruce Power’s current operations and the proposed nuclear expansion.
Bruce Power has also planned public information sessions at the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre. Sessions will be held Nov. 19 and Dec. 10 from 1-4 p.m. Guests will learn about the company’s operations, Major Component Replacement projects, production of cancer-fighting medical isotopes and the Bruce C project to explore opportunities for the future of the Bruce Power site, and take part bus tours of the Bruce Power site.

Bruce Power will also look to participate in municipal meetings in the host communities and in each of the three counties in the coming weeks.
Bruce Power will consider and summarize feedback from these early engagement activities in producing an Initial Project Description, which will be submitted to the IAAC in early 2024.
The Bruce C Project will provide an option for nuclear expansion on the Bruce site for up to an additional 4,800 megawatts of electricity. This will support Ontario’s growing energy needs, while advancing federal and provincial carbon emissions goals.
Beyond electricity supply and net zero targets, the project would create and sustain high-quality jobs in the local communities and beyond by supporting a highly technical and robust supply chain, as well as meaningful economic opportunities for Indigenous communities.
