In alignment with its Canadian at our Core strategy, Bruce Power has signed a 10-year strategic alliance agreement with Contro Valve, forging a continued partnership that secures well-paying jobs, drives the economy and supports clean energy projects right here at home.
The agreement, announced Oct. 15 at Contro Valve’s Burlington facility as part of the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCNI) Supplier Engagement Series, has the potential to see more than $10 million invested over the next 10 years while also providing equipment reliability and cost certainty for Bruce Power operations and projects to secure 30 per cent of Ontario’s clean energy for decades to come.
“Bruce Power is proud that 95 per cent of our spending is in Canada,” said Pat Dalzell, Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Operational Services. “We’re strengthening our domestic supply chain and Ontario’s economic growth, and this alliance agreement is part of that commitment.”
“This agreement reaffirms Contro Valve’s role as a long-term, trusted partner in the Canadian Nuclear Industry. Our dedicated, expanding team in Burlington, built on 25+ years of expertise, is ready to deliver the high-quality, critical valves, instrumentation and local support essential to the next generation of safe and reliable nuclear power in Ontario,” said Chris Tremblay, Nuclear Manager, Contro Valve.
Contro Valve employs up to 150 people in its five locations across Canada, including in Ontario (Sarnia, Burlington and Thunder Bay), Quebec and Manitoba. Bruce Power’s ongoing Life-Extension Program is Ontario’s largest clean-energy initiative and one of Canada’s largest private-sector infrastructure projects, funded by private-sector investors. Bruce Power provides between $9 billion and $12 billion in direct and indirect economic activity in Canada from operations and its Life-Extension Program, supporting 22,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“Contro Valve’s 10-year alliance with Bruce Power is a shining example of how strategic partnerships in the nuclear sector can drive local economic growth and long-term, high-quality employment,” said Karina Gould, Member of Parliament for Burlington and Chair of the House of Commons Finance Committee. “Nuclear energy remains one of the most critical industries in Canada, and we must continue to prioritize its development and the skilled workforce behind it. I’m proud to celebrate this important milestone with Contro Valve and look forward to their continued success as part of the Bruce C expansion project.”
“Contro Valve’s leadership and expertise in their field plays a key role in advancing Canada’s nuclear energy sector, and we’re proud they call Burlington home. This long-term partnership with Bruce Power supports clean energy, strengthens our local economy, and aligns with Burlington’s commitment to becoming a net carbon neutral community by 2050,” said Mayor Marianne Meed Ward.
