Bruce Power launches isotope merchandise site, donates proceeds to Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario, Brain Tumour Foundation

Bruce Power has launched a new merchandise website that celebrates the life-saving medical isotopes produced in its reactors, which are used to sterilize medical equipment and treat complex forms of cancer.

The timing for the website launch coincides with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Bruce Power is proud to support Canadian organizations that ensure everyone affected by childhood cancer has access to the best care and support. With every item purchased from the website, a donation will go to both the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario and Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada to support their important work.

“Canada has the ability to punch above our weight in medical isotope research, development and production, helping to improve countless lives around the world every day,” said Pat Dalzell, Bruce Power’s Head of Corporate Affairs. “Medical isotopes are essential to modern health care, and our employees and supply chain partners are proud of their role in providing this vital resource to the global medical community.”

Four of Bruce Power’s reactors produce Cobalt-60, an isotope which helps to sterilize 40 per cent of the world’s medical devices, battle cancer and treat brain tumours. Later this year, Bruce Power will expand the types of isotopes it produces by deploying the first Isotope Production System to produce Lutetium-177, an isotope used to treat neuroendocrine tumours and prostate cancer.

Isotope merchandise can be purchased at isotopemerch.com.
