In 2019, Bruce Power made a $1.45 million commitment over five years to hospital foundations across Grey, Bruce and Huron counties. Today, Bruce Power is expanding that commitment to $1.7 million by 2023, adding funding for the new Markdale Hospital through the Centre Grey Health Services Foundation, and the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation.
Since the company announced its commitment in 2019, Bruce Power has donated $954,000 across twelve hospital foundations in the region through its Corporate Social Responsibility program and supplier fundraising initiatives. The $1.7 million commitment includes $250,000 apiece being allocated to the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation, the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, and the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation; $150,000 to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation; and $100,000 apiece to the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation, Wingham & District Hospital Foundation, Alexandra Marine & General Hospital Foundation, Walkerton & District Hospital Foundation, Meaford Hospital Foundation, Chesley & District Health Services Foundation, Hanover & District Hospital Foundation, and the Centre Grey Health Services Foundation.
This commitment will support the efforts of the foundations to provide the latest equipment and services while recognizing the important work and services provided by local hospitals to local residents and visitors.
“Bruce Power’s vision and mission support strengthening communities and aims to support the great work that is being done to improve lives, protect the environment, celebrate culture, encourage education and build healthy communities in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO. “Quality health care is important to families in the community and our area visitors, so we focused a large portion of our community investment dollars to assist local hospitals in providing the best care possible.”
For the Centre Grey Health Services Foundation, the $100,000 coming from Bruce Power will support the construction of the new Markdale Hospital.
“We cannot thank Bruce Power enough for this significant gift,” said Harvey Fraser, Together In Care Campaign Chair. “Their generous investment in our hospital will be felt for generations to come. Thank you, Bruce Power, for your support and enrichment of this community.”
This announcement continues a longstanding relationship between Bruce Power and the Kincardine & Community Health Care Foundation.
“The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation is extremely grateful for Bruce Power’s continued support of hospitals in our communities,” said Becky Fair, President of the Foundation. “Bruce Power recognizes the need for quality health care close to home, and this long term commitment will further strengthen and enhance the hospital services in Kincardine and surrounding communities.”
