Bruce Power’s Supplier Partners donate $10,000 to Childcan

The Bruce Power Supplier Sponsorship Program has made a $10,000 donation to Childcan, an organization that provides emotional, financial and social support for families from Bruce, Grey and Huron counties dealing with childhood cancer.

Childcan’s mission is to raise awareness and funds to provide personalized, responsive, and compassionate programs and services to families facing the childhood cancer journey, from diagnosis through treatment, to post-treatment care or bereavement. The donation will go directly to families from the Clean Energy Frontier region of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.

“We are very thankful to our Supplier Partners for again coming together to raise over $600,000 in 2023 for the Supplier Sponsorship Program, which provides much-needed funding to important local, provincial and national organizations such as Childcan,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO. “The support Childcan provides local families alleviates some of the stresses that come with childhood cancer, and allows these families to focus on their loved one’s treatment and hopeful recovery.”

Suzanne Elliott, the Executive Director of Childcan, said the organization is grateful to Bruce Power and its Supplier Partners for helping families and kids across Bruce, Grey, and Huron counties to manage some of the treatment-related costs associated with a childhood cancer diagnosis.

“Supporting a child through cancer is hard, and being far away from home and family makes it harder,” Elliott said. “There are many costs you might not consider unless you’ve been through something similar, including hospital parking, gas for trips to and from treatment, food and accommodation, child care for siblings at home, and other household expenses. Thanks to generous partners like Bruce Power’s Suppliers, Childcan can bring support and hope when and where it’s needed most.”

The Bruce Power Supplier Sponsorship Program aligns the company’s vendor partners with local, provincial and national non-profit organizations that focus on Indigenous youth, health and wellness organizations, Canadian veterans, food banks, and hospital foundations. Forty suppliers are supporting the program in 2023, donating over $600,000 to these initiatives.
